  • Youth Enterprise Programme Lambeth. Red Ochre is currently recruiting young people interested in getting into enterprise based in Lambeth and specifically within the Brixton area. This is a year long programme that will not affect benefits and will include personal and business training, level 2 qualifications, 1-2-1 business support, mentoring and start-up grants.   • Launch of the Government's Inter faith strategy. Uday and Rita presented Faith Groups and Government, a book commissioned by the Community Development Foundation (CDF) which analyses the experiences, challenges and successes of faith based organisations in building relationships with local and regional government.   • Charities with a trading arm 'are more likely to get funding'. Third Sector Magazine magazine quotes Uday. Charities should consider setting up social enterprise trading arms to improve their chances of securing funding from foundations, according to Uday Thakkar, director of social enterprise consultancy Red Ochre.   • Congratulations to Uday, as he wins Social Enterprise Mentor of the Year Award 2008. Uday was presented with the coveted New Statesman/Edge Upstarts Social Enterprise Mentor of the Year award by Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, at a ceremony in central London on Wednesday 18th June 2008.   • Do you need a small loan to help you start your business? Women's Business Centre and Street Cred are giving you the opportunity to join a new Micro-loan Group starting this June. The group will meet for five sessions during which you will receive business support and training necessary to progress your business idea and to get you ready to apply for a loan.   • Community Lottery Fund micro grants of £50 - £250 are available to small community groups and individuals wishing to develop a community based project or activity.   • Health and Belief a is a pilot grants programme funded jointly by London Catalyst and the Church Urban Fund (CUF) to support faith based community projects tackling poverty and health inequalities in London. Grants of up to £10,000 for one year are available. The closing date for applications is 30th June. See www.fbrn.org.uk/news for more information.
  • Uday contributes to Social Enterprise Magazine on the topic of homelessness. For further information click here.
  • NESTA and Unltd are running The Big Green Challenge, a competition for environmental businesses. Red Ochre is a partner organisation for the programme and is providing in kind support to a number of competitors.
    The Big Green Challenge is a £1 million prize fund designed to encourage and reward people working together. Competitors will develop and implement new approaches that will lead towards a 60% reduction of CO2 emissions in their communities. 100 Competitors have now been invited to the next round.

  • William Blake Mosaics. Tuesday 29 January 2008 - Sunday 30 March 2008 , Open daily (except Mondays) from 11am to 8pm.
    The Saison Poetry Library hosts an exhibition of mosaics based on William Blake's Songs of Innocence and Experience, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth. Blake was a visionary poet and artist who spent part of his life in Lambeth. These mosaics, created by local people, are one strand of the William Blake Heritage Project. This project aims to develop a shared understanding of Blake's work in the local community, and is run by Southbank Mosaics in partnership with Southbank Sinfonia and the Futures Theatre Company.

  • February 2008. Red Ochre successfully achieved accreditation as an NCFE Centre. We are now accredited to deliver accredited enterprise courses.
  • January 2008. Red Ochre is approved as an NVCO Approved Consultant for the third year.
  • Leadership training delivered in partnership with the social Enterprise Academy.
  • Red Ochre are exhibiting and speaking at the Social Entrepreneur Show at Olympia on the 2nd and 3rd of November. A first of its kind in the UK the show is free and is expected to attract large audiences and have a range of exciting events and exhibitors.   • Red Ochre mentioned in parliamentary debate on the UK Voluntary Adoption Sector. Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Education and Skills (Mr. Parmjit Dhanda) said "...
